Your eyes actually need more moisture than your skin because they get dehydrated more easily (that's why tiredness shows there) and eye wrinkles are notoriously difficult to get rid off cosmetically. That's why eyecreams were created.

Eye cream is really important when it comes to make-up. A lot of mature women don't wear make-up because they are worried it will set and accentuate fine lines. Actually this may be because the skin is dehydrated and when you put on make-up, it 'drinks' up the moisture in the make up and dries it out. A good eye cream will not only hydrate the area and reduce this, but it can also serve as an eye base for your make-up too.

Of course there are many out there which all claim to do weird and wonderful thing. Some are designed to brighten up the eyes because of the
reflectiveness. Some claim to make the skin look smoother, hide puffiness and in
the long run, reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

The important thing when choosing is to consider, as you would do other skin products, the ingredients and if you are sensitive to them, your kind of skin (dry/normal/oily/sensitive) and the results you are after. If I wanted an eyecream, I'd want one that brightens, moisturises and is natural. You might need one that reduces dark circles or one that reduces puffiness and fine lines, or one that is calming. Don't just buy any eyecream or else you might not be impressed with your purchase. You must also invest in one which gives good value for money. With most eye creams you only need a little at a time but look at the net weight and the price and ask yourself if it is a reasonable investment. Your best bet is to read customer reviews. There is nothing more handy than the experience of someone who has tried it before (eyecream.org and eyecream. com are two places to start). Watch out for magazine and other media reviews. You will probably not get it right the first time you try and you may need to try a few different creams before you find the one that works for you. My advice would be to give it about 4-6 weeks for results to start showing. Mischievous had a go with the Garnier eye cream. This is another experiment from Total Beauty. Don't forget the SPF as sun damage can accelerate wrinkling and also you can get skin cancers around the eyes. Most
eyecreams do not have have SPF so I would suggest an SPF moisturiser
over the eye cream or an SPF foundation. Use eyecreams
overnight if you are trying to replenish the
moisture content or cause cell regeneration. I use Burt's bees radiance Eye Cream on myself. Like I said it is all about preference.

Using a good eye cream can save you from looking like you need 100 years of sleep everyday! Hopefully you'll be more adventurous with your make-up when you realise that the fine lines aren't so bad anymore...
Chocoholicks

I am addicted to chocolate and this is no exception. I love this product. It contains 4 chocolate lip glosses. How?

JI website
"Four shades and flavors of hydrating glosses provide a delicious array of options for
your lips and your palate.
• Truffle is a rich, chocolate brown gloss tasting of decadent, double chocolate.
• Chocolate Orange is a shimmering copper gloss pairing the flavors of deep, dark
chocolate and zingy orange.
• Strawberry Cream is a glossy pink and tastes of luscious berries dipped in
chocolate.
• Caramel is a sheer bronze gloss with sensuous, buttery sweetness.
Natural Formula:
• Formulated with 100 percent natural ingredients
• Uses sunflower seed oil for its antioxidant benefits and jojoba seed oil for hydration"

They all smell gorgeous I almost want to eat the whole thing up but I can't. Here are some pictures:

it: Only if you have extremely sensitive skin or feel like spending a lot of money.

Details:
Veludo Velvet is Christopher Drummond Beauty's all natural, organic based vegan foundation. This is basically a mineral powder foundation, but the unique thing about it is that it contains no Zinc Oxide, Bismuth Oxychloride or Titanium Dioxide. These three things are known irritants in some people who can't even tolerate normal mineral foundation. There's also the added claims from the website:

* Sweat resistant, yet allows the skin to breathe.
* Contains plant extracts, exotic fruit infusions, and antioxidants to help improve skin texture.
* Helps protect against the sun with phyto ingredients.
* Cosmetic-grade ingredients will not clog pores,
* Ingredients help bind moisture to the skin, so it is not drying.

When you buy it you get 8grams of product in a dark jar, a little travel jar and a spatula so you can transfer a small amount at a time from the dark jar for use (this is because the powder is sensitive to UV light); and a flat top synthetic brush.

All these come in a large cylindrical container.

First of all mineral foundation is very good for the skin because of the lack of chemicals, healing properties etc. Also a product that can be created without including Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide will be a welcome relief for all those who are sensitive to these ingredients. I like the idea of the little travel jar and using a little at a time. It stops you from contaminating the entire product and it also stops the product being degraded by UV light. You get a brush with it, which means you don't have to go out and buy a brush. The brush is synthetic, in keeping with the vegan theme.
Every time I've used it I found that it blends really well with my skin and a tiny amount is all I need.

If you know much about mineral foundation, you'll know that Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are the main natural sunscreens used. So this foundation compromises on sun protection to give you less ingredients. There is some 'sun protection' in it but there is no mention of the SPF, which is not a good thing. Sun exposure is itself a skin irritant and in this day and age of increasing sun damage, SPF is not something to compromise on. I also find it a bit ironic that other products from this brand in the same category (e.g. Saude Pele) have Zinc Oxide in them, because of its soothing properties. Hmm...
I would never pair a flat top brush with loose powder, simply because of the potential of packing too much on the brush. I also know that natural brushes are better for powder than synthetic ones, because of their ability to hold and release more particles evenly. However, I never really got to test my CDB brush properly because this is what happened after I took it out of the packaging for the third time:

Considering that this product cost £50, surely a better quality brush would have been more appropriate. I could not return it because you can only return within seven days of purchase. This foundation blends very well, but so does my Jane Iredale PurePressed base and Bare ID foundation. You get 8g of product here whereas with my JI one, I got 10.5g for half the price!

The conclusion: If you have the need for foundation that is absolutely rid of all irritants or you are a vegan through and through, then this is for you. Also if you are professional, this would be a good addition to your kit, because you might across one of those people. Otherwise, I recommend you get another brand of good mineral foundation. It will cost you a lot less and you will get better value for your money.

Stay beautiful...Her Royal Poshnesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03319157143759003082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688345436738183656.post-41646442151687335662009-12-02T13:52:00.002+00:002009-12-02T13:57:40.028+00:00President Yar Adua's sicknessI bet you expected something beauty related right?

No this is stolen property from: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?profile=1&id=285001108#/profile.php?v=app_2347471856&ref=ts&id=661491158

Of Sick Presidents by Abba Kalgo...

President Umaru Yar’adua is a sick man. There can be no doubt about that with the recent official confirmation after a trip to a Saudi hospital. His state of health prior to his election and subsequent assumption of office has been a subject of speculation, rumours, truths and half truths. Since the official confirmation, there have been widespread calls from prominent Nigerians for his resignation while others are asking that the powers of the constitution in matters of this nature be invoked. The debate is valid, the requests are justifiable and the concerns are legitimate. The matter that I believe should stand above all these concerns, debates and requests however, is that of ability. Is President Yar’adua able to serve out the rest of his term even with the underlying health issues? Do his medical conditions hinder his ability to govern? Will he make a full or enough recovery for him to properly govern Nigeria? All these questions need to be answered before any decision is taken on the future of Nigeria. Why I believe that these are the important questions that need to be answered is a matter of sick presidents and history.

America’s war time president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt who steered the country through the conflict from 1939 to 1945 was far from being in a good state of health. He had been in declining health even before the United States joined the war. Not only was his afflicted with paralysis, he was diagnosed with numerous ailments including coronary disease, angina, emphysema, systemic atherosclerosis and hypertension. Despite these conditions, Roosevelt did manage to help the United States win the war, preside over rebuilding part of a battered nation and even win re-election before he eventually succumbed to his illness years after his health issues began.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy who is perhaps America’s most celebrated president in modern times did have serious medical conditions that hindered his ability to move physically. He had chronic back problems, Addisson’s disease that hindered his body’s ability to regulate blood sugar and hypothyroidism which led to depression, joint and muscle pain.

Another American President, Dwight Eisenhower was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and ventricular aneurysm as a result of a heart attack suffered while in office. Mr Eisenhower did make a recovery enough to see him serve out the rest of his first term and even win re-election. He remained president until 1961 a full six years after suffering the initial heart attack in 1955. He did live for a further 8 years after leaving office. He died in 1969.

Closer to home, former South African President, Thabo Mbeki, did complain of breathing difficulties while addressing a political rally in 2004 and was rushed to hospital. He did make a full recovery and mastermind an ANC victory at the polls. He was president until September 2008 and is living in retirment in relatively good health. Also in 2004, during the celebration of Zanzibar’s 40th independence anniversary, the then President Benjamin Mkapa addressed a Nation after being away from the country for several months seeking medical treatment. He lives a relatively healthy life in retirement since serving out his full term in office.

Looking at all these personalities who were in similar situations with Umar Yar'adua based on their deteriorating health conditions and also being presidents, it is very premature in my opinion, to start any talks of succession, stepping down or ascension until a clear picture of President Yar'adua’s health is in the public glare and assessed by experts and authorities in the field. Even at that, it has to be confirmed whether the president is capable of making a full or sufficient enough recovery to return to his constitutional duty of running the country. Even if he is not, it has to be shown beyond doubt that his condition will cause him to be unable to discharge his duties. Until that is done, I say Mr President is just a sick man as many of us have been in the past and wish him a speedy and full recovery. Her Royal it: Yes!

Details:
Finally we have a 100% certified organic beauty store in UK! Amarya is an online store that sells certified organic beauty products. They also have a store and salon in London, where they offer therapeutic services. I took advantage of a promotion which I saw on facebook and purchased a few products from them.

I had been searching for a particular lotion from Santa Verde for a very long time and was excited at discovering they stocked it. I don't have to pay €15.50 for shipping from Germany any more.
They have a wide variety of brands and I was very impressed with how my products arrived in 2 days, especially as I didn't pay a dime for shipping. This store offers free shipping on all UK orders and 28 days money back guarantee.

The downside of course is the cost of the products. Certified organic products tend to be more expensive than regular ones anyway. The Santa Verde Medium Aloe Vera cream cost €19.90 (£18.10) from SV and £28.00 from Amarya. It is still cheaper than buying from SV and paying the cost of shipping though. The cost may be justified by the purity of what you are buying. You know that extra care was taken when that product was being made and it has gone through a certification process and passed.

If you are a natural beauty freak I would certainly recommend you visit this store. Right now they are offering free gift wrapping services and a free gift when you spend £35.00 or more. Perfect timing for the festive season.

On the side: In my part of the world- Amarya means first time bride. It is a word associated with innocence :)

Stay beautiful...Her Royal Poshnesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03319157143759003082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688345436738183656.post-60989369434239453872009-12-01T00:01:00.001+00:002009-12-01T00:01:00.418+00:00IMATS LondonWho is coming to IMATS??? The FTC rules come into effect from the 1st of December 2009. Here is an excerpt from pages 4-5.

Example 5: A skin care products advertiser participates in a blog advertising service. The service matches up advertisers with bloggers who will promote the advertiser’s products on their personal blogs. The advertiser requests that a blogger try a new body lotion and write a review of the product on her blog. Although the advertiser does not make any specific claims about the lotion’s ability to cure skin conditions and the blogger does not ask the advertiser whether there is substantiation for the claim, in her review the blogger writes that the lotion cures eczema and recommends the product to her blog readers who suffer from this condition. The advertiser is subject to liability for misleading or unsubstantiated representations made through the blogger’s endorsement. The blogger also is subject to liability for misleading or unsubstantiated representations made in the course of her endorsement. It looks like only the advertisers are liable for non-disclosure.

From Section 255.5, page 12

Example 7: A college student who has earned a reputation as a video game expert maintains a personal weblog or “blog” where he posts entries about his gaming experiences. The liability part says see section 255.5 and also, that you must disclose if you were paid.

So the conclusion from the paper: If you were paid to post or got the stuff for free, you must disclose that or else you, as well as the advertiser could be liable (unless you don't operate in America).
I do agree that they will be targetting people with many hits and even though the FTC may not have the outright authority to fine an individual blogger, it's the law isn't it? A way will be created because we have been warned. Also, the brand can probably share the liability with you or hold you liable.
Just play it safe and disclose whether or not you think you can be fined.

Her Royal Poshnesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03319157143759003082noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688345436738183656.post-71305601735853050062009-11-29T10:01:00.007+00:002009-11-29T12:59:45.668+00:00Look like a star by Lauren Luke ReviewLook like a star by Lauren Luke

Pages: 208
Price: £16.99
Weight: 520 grams
Available from: Any major book store
HRP Rating:

I have to say I was very eager to get my hands on this book. I am extremely proud of how far Lauren has progressed from YouTube tutorials. I enjoy her tutorials when I get to see them and when the lighting allows me to see what she is doing clearly.

My first impression: The book is colourful!
You get 15 pages of basic information and 25 celebrity look tutorials.

Of the 208 pages in this book, 44 are full of random information. Stories about Lauren's life, fan notes, dedications, random 'talks' etc. That's 21% of the book filled with stuff you don't need. I suppose her story is a very important aspect of who she is hence the inclusion but I was particularly annoyed at how 2 whole pages were used to introduce a chapter and for every time Lauren wants to say something e.g. 'I want to make everyone feel special'.

The basic information is exactly that- basic! If you are not entirely new to makeup skip those pages. There is no detailed information on highlighting and contouring and special application techniques.

Finally I got to the main bit, the celebrity looks. I have to say I was disappointed in most of it. The celebrity photos are are there but she does not replicate their looks at all. She merely uses them as an introduction to the look she is trying to create. If the book had said celebrity-inspired it would have been different but it says 'Learn how to recreate your favourite celebrity looks'.

So I decided to replicate one of the looks to see how easy the book is to follow. I chose the Taylor Swift natural glow look on page 50.

Before every look Lauren has helpfully compiled a list of everything you need for that look. For this particular one, I need:

Beige creamy eyeshadow

Peachy gold frosted eyeshadow

White frosted eyeshadow

Silver pewter frosted eyeshadow

Black mascara

This is not all for this tutorial but I'm only attempting the eye look.
By the way there are no images of the colours- so everything is left to your imagination. Can I just express my amazement at the vagueness of the colours I'm supposed to use? What is peachy gold?

On to the tutorial then...
First I'm to apply the beige creamy eyeshadow with my third finger (even though I've always known that ring finger is better as it applies the least pressure on the eyes) on my lids all the way to my eyebrows.

Next is to apply the peachy gold frosted eyeshadow with my eyeshadow brush all over the lids, into the crease and slightly beyond the outer edge. Lauren has a page in the beginning where she list all the brushes with images of what they look like. I mixed a gold and a peach eyeshadow together.

Next is to apply a white highlighter with my finger under my brow and work down to the crease. My first problem with this instruction is that there is no highlighter in the list of things I need. I only have white frosted eyeshadow and I don't think I can apply that with my finger. So I'm going to use my angle liner brush to apply a bit of white frosted eyeshadow underneath my brows.

Now I'm supposed to tilt my head back and apply the silver pewter eyeshadow with my blending brush in circular motions along the crease towards the inner corner. I must not allow it to be too dark.
Why am I tilting my head back? And if I tilt my head back how can I see the mirror?
(Honestly try it for yourself). I'm gonna do it my own way, with my head straight.

The magic tip for this look: Try not to get eyeshadow into your eyes because it hurts! (how helpful)

Now I'm to use my angle eyeliner brush to apply the same colour (I assume its the silver pewter) on the lower lash line to two-thirds of the way inwards.

Finally, I tilt my head backwards and apply black mascara upwards and outwards to the upper and lower lashes.

I took 2 attempts to get this right. The first attempt was quite disastrous, mainly because I didn't get the colours right. It looked like she was wearing black eyeliner in this look, but there is no mention of it in the tutorial. I think I got the look OK with some tweaks here and there ( I am a different skin tone from Lauren obviously). It was very hard to pretend I am not a makeup artist. I can see a beginner struggling with these instructions. The descriptions are quite vague and there are few or no images to help.

First Attempt:

2nd Attempt:
Taylor Swift

Lauren

Didnt she say don't get it too dark?
Me:

My conclusion:
If you are new to make up or you would like a quick guide to creating different looks, then try this book. It uses very simple terminology and the instructions are straight forward. When you read it it's like Lauren is there talking to you. The colour descriptions are a bit vague but the basic idea is there and you can gauge from her eyes what you are supposed to look like afterwards.

If you are a professional or good with make up, this book is not for you. She does all the looks on herself and this makes the book comes across as if it was rushed. Like she just took old pictures of looks on herself, wrote out some quick 'how to' and then looked for celebrities to match with the looks. With more time investment; and clearer and more detailed tutorials, this would have been a better book. The tips are silly sometimes and at 16.99, this, in my opinion, is way more expensive than it is worth. Luckily you can get it for about £10 from Amazon.

Looks like someone is going to get this book from me for Christmas after all. I shall stick to the YouTube tutorials.

If you have/get this book and try out the tutorials, let us know how you got on, especially if you are new to makeup.

Stay beautiful...
Her Royal Poshnesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03319157143759003082noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688345436738183656.post-43024716251509255192009-11-29T00:13:00.006+00:002009-11-29T00:13:00.102+00:00Moving HomesHRP has secretly been building her permanent home and is relocating there on the 29th of December when she will be celebrating her first anniversary on blogsville and the super duper 2010!!!

I'm so excited. I believe it was designed for normal skin. It looks very complex and has a grainy texture. You can literally see seaweeds sticking out of here and there but it really does give your face a very silky smooth feel albeit temporarily. It also has a calming effect, which I put down to the Aloe Vera in it.

I think you get about 10 uses in it and at 6.49 it is worth it. It has all the advantages of being natural and fresh (no preservatives) and all you need is a good 10 minutes on a Wednesday and Saturday evening to incorporate this into your skin care routine. It works wonders!

My number one problem with this FFM is how it clogs my drain with annoyingly large seaweed particles, which could have been shrunk into smaller pieces before incorporating. You can just pick them out of the mask. It then takes ages to wash off, especially the bits that get stuck to the hairline, because it dries very quickly and has a thick consistency. Also, it needs to be stored in the fridge and you have to remember that before you head upstairs to the shower. This might be that little bit of effort that makes you less likely to use it, and then it goes to waste because it only lasts 3 weeks. If you do not have an accessible LUSH store, forget this product because you cannot order it online.

Would I recommend it? Only if you are dedicated. It gets 3.5 crowns solely on its smoothing and calming properties but for everything else, it is an effort. Make sure you try it on an inconspicuous area before using it on your face, you don't want to look like a tomato afterwards.
Are you using twitter to your advantage?

Twitterfeed: Twitter feed is an amazing way to link your blog/website to your twitter account. It automatically checks your website for new posts and tweets them for you, including a link to the site. This is so useful if you are a blogger. Let Twitterfeed notify your followers of your new post while you are snoozing away somewhere.

Mobile twitter: Do you have twitter on your phone? How annoying is it when you are somewhere where you need to tweet something quickly but oops! you have to wait till you get home when the moment is gone? You then return to 2500 tweets and you don't even know where to begin or what has been happening. Stay in touch- have mobile twitter. Time is of the essence.

Contests: A good way to keep your followers nearby and get new ones is by twitter contests. Many brands do this already. Anyone remember moonfruit? OK you don't have to give away Macbooks but simple things like first to re-tweet this gets whatever. It keeps people in tune.

Discount codes: Generate discount codes for your twitter followers that are valid for a short period of time (so the discount code website doesn't get hold of them). They will be sure to stay close.

Give information: This I think is why twitter was created. So you can tell people quickly what is happening or what you are up to. The surest way to lose followers is by silence.

Engage with members that have similar interests: Shout out to the beauty bloggers! No don't mind me. The amazing thing about twitter is that you can follow and be followed by brands, websites, celebrities or other bloggers that share your interests. I exchange tweets with amazing beauty addicts that I have never met and it is a fantastic means of communication and information. We discuss events, send messages to brands. talk about products, exchange ideas and lots more.

Twitpic: You must have a twitpic account. Twitter only allows you 140 characters but one photo can convey 1,000 words. How do you convince your followers about this amazing pink elephant you can see if you don't give them an opportunity to see it themselves?

Instant messenger: There is no proper instant messenger on twitter but indirectly that is what is on offer. You can involve your followers in your IM with another brand if they follow you both but if you prefer to keep it private, just direct message the person you are after if you follow each other. The possibilities are endless.

Website traffic: You can include links in your tweets and this is a way to get people to the target site instantly.

Get quick live feedback: So you are in a fix about which colour to include in your new palette or if your new website layout looks appealing, just tweet the question to your followers and voila!

Live commentary of events: The joy of being a blogger or website owner is that you are considered press. Your followers will appreciate frequent updates of the event you are attending and with twitpic, they can even see what you are seeing.

Re-tweets and hashtags: Have you ever thought about how many million people can see your message in the space of 30 minutes by re-tweeting? Just ask people to re-tweet your message and their followers and followers of followers will get the message. If you include a hashtag in your message, you can track the hashtag by clicking it. This is very useful if you want to create a trending topic and get everybody round the world on twitter involved.

Do not spam or over-tweet: The last thing you should do is to spam your followers or over-tweet. This is a sure way to lose followers and it is very very annoying. Sometimes spam may not be your fault but do not start it. Do not over-tweet either, it becomes spam eventually. It is annoying when the first page of my Tweetdeck is packed with messages from one person, which are, to say the least, useless.

Sales: No one has said advertising your product is illegal. If you twitpic whatever it is with a price, an interested buyer will contact you. twitter is a real time tool, so whoever might be online now may never get the opportunity to visit your website.

Follow Friday: FF is a good way to get your followers onto other people with similar interests. It helps your followers and it helps you as well because usually FF is reciprocal and other people can find you. I have discovered many brands and beauty bloggers by FF alone. Do not underestimate its potential.

Her Royal Poshnesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03319157143759003082noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688345436738183656.post-80253936604714843882009-11-23T12:01:00.000+00:002009-11-23T12:01:00.624+00:00Angle shader brushDo you have an angle shader brush? What do you do with it? This is another one of those brushes that most people do not bother with but it is extremely useful.

The aim of this brush is to create the classic 'V' eye-shadow. You can also use it to get into the lid or nasal (nose) creases or use it as an eye contour to create contrasting colours. So next time you are looking for sellotape to create a nice line at the outer edge of your eyes, consider one of these.

Using your angle shader brush to create a lined outer edge
Place the shorter tip of the brush on the edge of the eye then tilt your brush outwards and back in. Also it doesn't last very long on it's own, you need a good primer to keep it there. The dispenser is not so great for precision, you need some degree of dexterity to be able to use it properly. I suggest using a good eye-liner brush instead.
I certainly recommend it though if you can afford it or find it at a lower price. It is an unusual colour and it reflects beautifully.

Stay beautiful...Her Royal Poshnesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03319157143759003082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688345436738183656.post-37974638568578728782009-11-22T12:01:00.003+00:002009-11-22T13:02:37.219+00:005 great things about using pigments

You can create whatever colour you like from a selection. This is better value for money because you use less to get the desired result.

More efficient storage: Most pigments are sold in stackable containers. You can make mountains and mountains of colours if you want and since the stack expands vertically you are not using much space. I had to recite and act it at the literary and debating society social off-head over 10 years ago. I was the driver and one of my seniors was the PS. I still remember most of it today and it was the ONE that got me interested in art-ish things.
I think it's a well-written poem and I hope you like it too.

Today, I did my share in building the nation.
I drove a Permanent Secretary
To an important urgent function
In fact to a lunch at the Vic.

The menu reflected its importance
Cold bell beer with small talk,
Then fried chicken with niceties
Wine to fill the hollowness of the laughs
Ice-cream to cover the stereotype jokes
Coffee to keep the PS awake on return journey.

I drove the Permanent Secretary back.
He yawned many times in back of the car
Then to keep awake, he suddenly asked,
Did you have any lunch friend?
I replied looking straight ahead
And secretly smiling at his belated concern
That I had not, but was slimming!

Upon which he said with a seriousness
That amused more than annoyed me,
Mwanainchi, I too had none!
I attended to matters of state.
Highly delicate diplomatic duties you know,
And friend, it goes against my grain,
Causes me stomach ulcers and wind.
Ah, he continued, yawning again,
The pains we suffer in building the nation!

So the PS had ulcers too!
My ulcers I think are equally painful
Only they are caused by hunger,
Not sumptuous lunches!

So two nation builders
Arrived home this evening
With terrible stomach pains
The result of building the nation -
- Different ways.

Henry Barlow. Her Royal Poshnesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03319157143759003082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688345436738183656.post-18510285187545192532009-11-12T00:01:00.003+00:002009-11-12T00:01:00.636+00:00Fav Fives for November pt 1

Krasey beauty's holiday gift info. It is one of those brushes that no one every mentions but it is important and very handy. If you are a professional or planning to become one you must have this in your kit.

When creating a smokey eye for instance, you often need to blend the upper lash liner (usually) with the dark shadow at the outer edge. Eye-liners are very hard to blend with a blending brush because of their consistency and this is where the smudge brush comes in. Think of it as the blending brush for thicker consistency products. The alternative to using a smudge brush is to use a smudge foam tip. You can often find one of these on the top of most eye-liner pencils or you can buy it separately but the problem is that it is difficult to clean and even more difficult to manipulate because it is too flimsy.

This is what you can do with a smudge brush:

Before and After using EFNY Phantasm glitter eye liner and Bare ID bloom eye colour.

There are many different brands of smudge brushes out there and they vary in price. Many brands will have a 'smudge brush' that is not typical e.g. Bobbi brown. Make sure you know what you are looking for and buying.
Nars has a very good one but it costs a whopping £36. Others are Laura Mercier (£20), Becca (£17), crown brush (£1.68), Paula Dorf (£18.90) etc

The one I use is from Sephora ($20). The one by sephora fits the bill perfectly and is just as good as the Nars one, which I use to set the standard because that is a very well made smudge brush.

However I recently discovered one that is so good and so affordable I still can't believe my luck. Bourjois has a blending brush that is the perfect shape and size and I bought it from Superdrug for only £4.80!
